Earning his MD from Wake Forest Medical School and his DDS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Stephen Herring is board certified in both fields. Dr. Stephen Herring serves as a plastic surgeon in Fayetteville, NC. Among the medical procedures he performs is breast lift surgery.
Also referred to as mastopexy, a breast lift is a surgical procedure used to alter the shape of a person’s breasts. The procedure involves removing excess skin and reshaping the beast tissue to return firmness and raise or lift the breasts. A breast lift can lessen sagging and elevate the location of the nipples and the areolae, the dark areas around the nipples.
A woman’s breasts change as she grows older. A loss of firmness and elasticity can be attributed to a number of reasons, including gravity, which causes breast ligaments to sag and extend, and weight changes, which can result in the breast skin stretching and losing elasticity. In addition, pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause ligaments supporting the breast to stretch as the breast becomes heavier and larger.
The size of a woman’s breasts are not materially changed as a result of a breast lift, but a breast lift can be performed in combination with breast reduction or breast augmentation surgery.
